2. Go out and farm soul stones either from Creek Valley or open worls and incubate them.

each incubated stone gives 1 exp towards tamer and the daily gives 2 i belive.....yes tedious work

or you just can go kill those khonem, scarab and those wind puppet at sea of oblivion
at 50+'s you can farm bear, tree and spiders at gloomy forest and hazed wilderness

well the instance does give a better soul drop rate...you can also buy crappy pets from AH and hatch them

Souls drop at the same rate no matter how many levels higher you are. Since you don't need level 2 soul catching until you get to Gloomy Woodlands, get to level 40 and farm Scarabs in Sea of Oblivion. 1 or two hits with basic attack and/or your pet and they are dead so you don't need to waste mana pots etc doing it.

Edit: If you're on a PVE server, you can completely empty your bag into the bank to make space for as many as you can get at once since you won't need any pots except the occasional health pot maybe.

Farm as many as you can get, incubate, combine the resulting pets with Hicks to get some extra talent points for your own pet. Maybe sell any incubated greens/blues that drop in the AH for a bit of spare cash.
Rinse and repeat.

and if you have some friends with nothing better to do. get a few ppl to go with you, you all harvest pets for souls, and then you hatch em. What me and my friends do. Im the designated pet person. In return I give them first dibs on any good pets I snag if they want em.
